Alumni Spotlight: Roberto Villa '16
When Roberto Villa thinks back on his journey to Wenatchee Valley College, he remembers a few small moments that made a big difference. It was the encouragement from his high school counselor, the example of a friend who had already taken the first steps, and the feeling that maybe, just maybe, college could be within reach after all.
At WVC, Roberto found a place that felt like home. He threw himself into campus life, joining programs like CAMP, ASWVC Student Senate, and MEChA. Whether he was planning student events, partnering with organizations like the Wenatchee Wild or the YWCA, or simply meeting classmates in the halls, Roberto built the kind of connections that would stay with him long after graduation.
"My fondest memories are from being involved," he says. "The events we put on, the people I met, and the support I felt from the staff and faculty all helped me grow so much."
One class in particular made a lasting impact. Public speaking had always been something Roberto was nervous about, but after completing a course at WVC, he found his confidence growing. Little by little, he realized that using his voice could make a real difference.
Roberto brings that same energy to his role today as the Student Leadership & Engagement Coordinator at WVC. Every day, he helps students navigate their college experience, connect to campus resources, and find their own place in the community. It is a full-circle moment, giving back to the place that once gave him the tools to succeed.
"WVC taught me so much," Roberto says. "The staff, the programs, and the opportunities all helped shape who I am. Now I get to be part of that experience for new students."
His advice speaks true to becoming more engaged with campus activities: "Get involved. Attend events. Check your email. Do not be afraid to ask questions. There is a lot of support here if you just reach out."
