Fire Science

The WVC Fire Science program provides individuals interested in emergency services with entry-level training. The two-year program includes classes in general education and technical studies. Coursework includes basic, intermediate and advanced fire sciences (FF1 and FF2); hazardous materials; tactics; building construction; pumper operations; and wildland firefighter classes. Industry certifications will be issued according to national standards. This program requires a grade of “C” or better in the fire science core courses and general studies.

WVC core fire science courses will be taught at local fire districts utilizing district equipment and gear. Since the training is highly hands-on, affiliation with a local fire district will be important in order to complete the core fire science courses.
